Kate's work with PLACED

PLACED is a social enterprise based in Liverpool which works across the North West region with people keen to get engaged in planning, design and decision making.

Their team, led by founder and director Jo Harrop, is supported by a collective of over 140 volunteer ambassadors – all professionals or students, and including architects, landscape architects, urban designers, interior designers and planners.

Land Studio’s Kate Richards has been involved with PLACED on a voluntary basis since they were established in 2011.

Kate says: “The work that PLACED does to engage young people and communities in planning, design and development from an early stage is so important.

“Over the past ten years we’ve seen students studying for GCSEs, A’levels and University degrees coming through PLACED workshops and going on to exciting careers in the built environment.

“We help young people to understand more about the places where they live and work and I’m always impressed by the ideas they have about improving urban life, tackling city issues and creativity around climate change.

“During the pandemic we did workshops via Zoom and I’m looking forward to returning to meeting people in person.”
