It's the start of the bat survey season
Do you have bats on your development site?
Bats are European Protected Species and the UK is home to an impressive 18 species of bat, with 17 known to be breeding within our borders.
If you have structures and trees onsite which provide suitable bat roosting habitat you may need a European Protected Species (EPS) Licence if your development impacts on bat roosts or access points.
A Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRA) is the essential first step for development planning and they can be undertaken at any time of year. Our experienced ecologists can thoroughly assess structures and trees for potential roosting features and recommend appropriate follow-up surveys when needed.
If your site has been assessed as providing suitable bat roosting habitat on site, dusk emergence surveys may be required to confirm bat presence/absence. Emergence surveys are carried out during the bat active season of May to September. Our licensed bat ecologists survey using bat detectors and night vision aids, such as infra-red and thermal imaging cameras.
If bats are detected roosting within a structure or tree, further roost characterisation surveys can be completed to inform mitigation requirements.
Grasslands, woodlands, hedgerows and waterbodies can provide important bat foraging and commuting habitats. We offer bat activity surveys (between April-October) through walked transect surveys and static detector deployment.
Following confirmation of bat presence through our comprehensive surveys, our team will design a tailored mitigation strategy that minimises impacts on bats, ensures full compliance with wildlife legislation and supports efficient progression of your project.

We were really impressed with Land Studio. They are creative, a delight to work with and captured our vision and their own vision perfectly.
