Earlier this month our directors Lisa, Simon and Kate were in Cardiff for the Landscape Institute Housing and Regeneration Conference.
Hosted by the Welsh School of Architecture, the event was really well attended, by a range of built environment professionals from across the UK, and featured presentations and panel discussions on topics including placemaking, policy, SuDS, biodiversity and stewardship.
Lisa and Simon were invited to speak at the SuDS sessions, while Kate (outgoing co-chair of the LI Wales branch) chaired the morning’s session on Net Benefit for Biodiversity (NBB).
The day was a success for landscape architecture, with some lively discussions and passionate support for a landscape-led approach to housing and regeneration, in Wales and England.
Highlights included:
“Don’t just put SuDS in the corner. Ensure that it can be properly integrated throughout a development, by considering all relevant site constraints early in the design process and capturing water where it falls.” - Lisa Sawyer
“Proactively consider Green Infrastructure in a placemaking context.” - Pete Frost
“Promote mosaic habitats in new developments, to support a wide range of wildlife.” - Cathy Jewson
“Places are for people and for nature.” - Paul Osborne
