Last month we started a new series where we profile each of the Land Studio directors.
This month it’s the turn of Lisa Sawyer, an experienced civil engineer, who heads up our in-house delivery of civil engineering designs specialising in water management solutions.
Lisa has worked for both contractors and large multi-disciplinary engineering consultants and brings a nature-led approach to landscape, ecology and civil engineering projects.
What gets you up in the mornings? I really enjoy making the most of life, whether that is travelling or doing activities with my family, helping out friends, producing a great piece of work or meeting new people. I do like to pack in as much as possible into my day.
Tell us about a favourite project you’ve worked on. I really enjoy problem solving and I like working with clients who appreciate what you do, who respect your expertise and want to work with you to come up with the best solution.
Working on the Aqueduct Marina planning application with a team who do this meant not only did we come up with a scheme that provided the client with what they wanted, but we also ended up with a scheme that fitted into its rural environment, enhanced the ecology and biodiversity, provided water features which controlled surface water and worked with the topography.
I’m looking forward to the next stage of the design and getting the approvals for discharge of drainage across the line.
A place that is special to you and why? It has to be Borneo. Not only was it the place my husband and I got engaged, but it was a special trip to visit the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve which is renowned for its biodiversity and orangutans.
We visited the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre where we learnt about the rescued orphaned baby orangutans from logging sites and illegal hunting. We also visited the Gomantong Caves, home to millions of bats and swiftlets.
I can’t get through the weekend without …. Cheerleading! But I don’t have much of a say about this as it’s something my daughter is passionate about.
I also like catching up with friends as the week is so busy there is hardly any time to just sit and chat.

We were really impressed with Land Studio. They are creative, a delight to work with and captured our vision and their own vision perfectly.
