In the first of a new series we’ll profile each of the Land Studio directors. This month it’s the turn of Land Studio founder and highly skilled landscape architect Simon Richards.

What gets you out of bed in the morning? A desire to challenge the status quo and find a better way of developing land in a more balanced way with our natural systems.

A favourite project you’ve worked on? I really enjoyed working on Petty Pool Trust in Cheshire, where we bring together our connected expertise in a very special location with the direct aim of connecting people with nature. Its outdoor education and specialist college will cater for young people with learning disabilities and difficulties. Our design objective is to create inspiring educational spaces for pupils, staff and visitors to enjoy, providing important connections and integration with the surrounding 40-acre ancient woodland setting.

A place that is special to you and why? Moel Famau and the Clwydian Range, a place I have grown up around and now live in. The hills are a work in progress with massive potential to increase and enhance their biodiversity and habitat value.

I can’t get through the weekend without …. Working in the garden and getting out on my bike.

We were really impressed with Land Studio. They are creative, a delight to work with and captured our vision and their own vision perfectly.
