As a European Protected Species, the otter is a native species making a positive comeback in our watercourses following near extinction in the UK.

Water vole has suffered a dramatic decline since the 1990s and is protected in the UK as a Priority Species. Surveys for water vole can take place between early April and late October.

- Identification of key otter or water vole signs (spraints, holts, footprints, burrows, feeding remains).
- Extended survey coverage (up to 2km upstream and downstream for otter and up to 500m for water vole).
