New National SuDS Standards were published in England last summer and we’re finding that many people are still not aware of what they are.

So, we thought a quick summary might be useful.

* DEFRA released a refreshed set of national SuDS standards, replacing the older 2015 guidance, providing a guide for consistent national expectations for drainage design to be used by developers, designers and planners.

* These updates broaden the scope of SuDS from a hydraulic tool to multifunctional infrastructure, promoting a collaborative approach to site layout and landscape design, not just drainage design.

* These standards now cover the requirements of water quality, increase in biodiversity, amenity and placemaking, climate resilience and long‑term maintenance alongside hydraulic control.

* Whilst not mandatory many local authorities are taking these on board so now is the time to understand the impact on site design.

If you want to know more about the impact of these new standards on your site, then please get in touch and we would be happy to help you.

We were really impressed with Land Studio. They are creative, a delight to work with and captured our vision and their own vision perfectly.
