Winners Chapel International, a Christian faith charity, with a North-West presence currently in Salford, commissioned Land Studio, MOJO Architects, Zerum Planning and others to develop proposals for a new church in Blackley. Replacing buildings no longer fit for purpose, the development centres on a 1,500-seat chapel supported by a community hall, youth training centre, nursery, offices, café and foodbank.
The landscape concept reinterprets the stained-glass windows of traditional churches. Simplified paths meander among retained tree roots, framing colourful meadow planting and creating a distinctive garden setting for worship, gathering and contemplation.
Five complementary zones shape the visitor experience. A processional boulevard and tree-lined “cloisters” provide a welcoming arrival and space to gather, while contemplative routes lead into reflective garden pockets. Natural play, including musical and inclusive features, offers engaging experiences for children. Productive gardens bring church members and local groups together to grow food, with communal dining supporting shared events. More secluded naturalistic areas strengthen biodiversity, enabling people and nature to thrive side by side.
We look forward to seeing what will happen at the next stage of the project.
We were really impressed with Land Studio. They are creative, a delight to work with and captured our vision and their own vision perfectly.
