Work with the world’s oldest racecourse

Sian, an Assistant Landscape Architect at Land Studio, explains why she loved working on a project for Chester Racecourse:

“One of my favourite projects this year was designing the landscape for Chester Racecourse’s new Champagne Garden. The new sheltered gathering space is an exclusive venue, directly adjacent to the central parade ring of the racecourse, and sponsored by Laurent Perrier Rose Champagne.

“The brief for the project was to focus on surfacing and planting in a way which reflected the exclusivity of the space, but also referenced the character of the wider racecourse areas too.

“It was fun to play around with the concept and branding of the sponsored champagne. This inspired the flowing form of the final design, the orange and pink hues of the planting and the plumes of silver grasses throughout to represent the popping of champagne!

“It was also important to me as it was the first project based in my hometown of Chester that I’ve had the opportunity to work on.”
