Why is nature led design so important?

The climate is altering and bringing with it new issues and challenges. At Land Studio, we believe that if we reconnect people with natural processes, there are huge benefits.

These include enhancing biodiversity, reducing flood risk and sequestering carbon whilst reducing construction costs, the ongoing maintenance burden and the amount of embodied energy within projects.

As landscape architects, a nature led design approach is in our DNA. Whether we are designing a site for a school, a new residential street or reinterpreting the grounds of a National Trust property, we always look at ways to enhance a landscape and to add value to the land.

We do this in a number of ways.

Our knowledge and expertise of land and natural systems gives us a unique insight into the design of drainage and water management strategies that can respond to our changing climate.

By fully integrating the drainage design into the wider site planning, led by a nature first approach, there is a clear benefit to clients with a coordinated approach to site design and ultimately a better commercial value from the delivery of a project.

Enhancing biodiversity is vitally important to us. We create landscapes not only for people but for the benefit of nature and natural systems. On every project, we’ll carefully consider the flora and fauna on the site and its history before we make any suggestions.

It is well documented that spending time outdoors in beautiful environments benefits both mental and physical wellbeing. Our nature led approach allows us to create spaces with landscapes rich in colour and texture, connecting people with the natural environment.

Building for our future needs to be landscape driven – our role has become more important than ever in the development of the built environments of the future.
