We have played a pivotal role in the expansion of the development over the years and our work has supported multiple planning applications. This has included landscape design, civil engineering and ecology work to make the best use of the layout of the site to suit its topography, drainage requirements and usage.
We created a series of concept sketches to design the site layout, incorporating central pond areas to enhance the picturesque views, to attract biodiversity, and to provide natural habitats.
These ponds also served a dual purpose by effectively managing the site’s drainage. The thoughtful integration of these features not only boosted the park’s aesthetic appeal but also emphasized sustainability and environmental stewardship. Provision of technical information for submission with a planning application was also provided.
Our holistic drainage strategy was suited not only to the site, but to the requirements of the Local Authority through the planning process and the requirements of the Environment Agency through the discharge permitting process into the river.
We used the natural landscape in our designs and created open swales to manage water flow from the slopes into downstream discharge points. The surface water attenuation features were designed by our in-house civil engineering team to enhance the park’s amenities while ensuring sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
Foul water was treated on site and we suggested a phased approach with specifications and siting of the plants suitable for the requirements of the EA and ease of future maintenance.
A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) and bat inspection was undertaken at the site, to assess potential ecological impacts on local species and to determine requirements for further surveys and mitigation. Great crested Newts (GCN) surveys of nearby ponds and a District Level Licensing application was also undertaken, to comply with legal and planning policy requirements for this species.
We incorporated additional planting into the landscape design to achieve a 10% biodiversity net gain (BNG) and specified sensitive lighting to protect nocturnal habitats for bats and other species, minimizing light pollution and supporting long-term wildlife conservation.
These measures will help ensure that the development harmonises with the surrounding environment, contributing to both ecological sustainability and enhanced visitor experience, and ensuring that the development meets the relevant legal and planning policy requirements necessary to obtain planning permission

We were really impressed with Land Studio. They are creative, a delight to work with and captured our vision and their own vision perfectly.
