Our work can take us around the world. One of the projects we are working on at the moment is a high-end multi-million-pound apartment development on the waterfront in Gibraltar. Kings Wharf Quay is a development of stunning apartments, townhouses and penthouses along with swimming pools, fitness centres and a new waterfront promenade.

Working alongside Lovelock Mitchell Architects in Chester, we were commissioned to bring a landscape architect’s vision to the scheme, considering the distinctive character, ecology and history of this unique location. In Gibraltar the land rises from sea level to high altitude very quickly which creates very diverse habitats. We extracted the essence of those habitats when we were designing the entrances and semi-private garden spaces that the apartments look out over.

We installed native, Mediterranean plants against a very simple ground plane of limestone paving. Olive trees were planted to reflect the wild hillsides of the peninsula.

We are creating a curved seating area to focus on the views to Commonwealth Park, the town and the Rock; waves of native species to create a diverse, informal garden environment; and planted pine and plane trees to provide a formal structure for the gardens.

It works really well against the sharp new architectural buildings – creating a wild oasis in the middle of the town.

We were really impressed with Land Studio. They are creative, a delight to work with and captured our vision and their own vision perfectly.
