Find out more about our Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and when you need to do them for different species.
Survey season fills up fast, so now is the perfect time to get ahead. Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) can be carried out all year round, giving you an early understanding of any habitat or species constraints on your site. A PEA is the best first step for any project, allowing you to plan and schedule any follow-up surveys well in advance.
Alongside PEAs, at Land Studio we can also complete a wide range of year-round ecological assessments, helping you keep projects on track while preparing for the peak survey months.
Our year-round ecological services
We are able to carry out the following surveys and assessments throughout the year:
Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA)
Bat building assessments and ground-level tree assessments
Initial bat scoping surveys (year-round)
Initial Great Crested Newt (GCN) surveys, including HSI assessments (year-round)
Dormouse nut searches
Badger surveys
Otter surveys
Wintering bird surveys
Why act now?
A PEA gives you early clarity on ecological requirements and ensures you’re ready for the seasonal surveys that can only be undertaken at specific times of year. By completing this initial scoping work now, you can:
Identify constraints early
Avoid project delays
Secure survey slots during the busy peak season
Plan mitigation and next steps with confidence
If you’d like to discuss early-stage scoping or schedule your PEA, we’re here to help. You can also download our free Ecology Survey Calendar here.
We have produced this guide to help you navigate the seasons, know when to undertake surveys and how to plan for developments.
