A memorial garden in Wales

Three years ago we designed a memorial garden to honour the memory of local resident David Johnson – and it’s looking lovely.

David was instrumental in reviving the village hall in Cilcain in North Wales.

Lots of people in the village worked together to create the memorial, including a sculptor and a joiner who used oak from Bodnant to create the curved slatted timber bench.

We used planting to match that in Cilcain Churchyard, installed raised beds with timber edging and added ferns, feathergrass and alliums.

What was a tired piece of land in the village has become a popular place for people to meet, chat and reflect. It’s a little sun trap and a tribute to a man who made a difference.
