Chester Racecourse, one of the oldest active tracks in the world, holds significant historic value for Chester, attracting local visitors and tourists throughout the year.

Land Studio has supported projects at the racecourse that enhance both its guest experience and public realm. In 2018, the studio worked with Lovelock Mitchell Architects on feasibility-stage public realm designs for the entrance, making better use of the external spaces by improving access, movement and gathering areas for people and vehicles. The proposals included new green lawn spaces, coloured hard surfaces, clearer routes and additional space for mobile kiosks, helping to reduce congestion and improve visitor flow.

In 2021, Land Studio was commissioned to develop concepts for an elegant champagne garden with canopies, assessing the external areas, addressing visual barriers and integrating informal planting of shrubs and climbing roses. The garden design used low white fences and sponsor-specific champagne colours, including pink, red and orange planting islands, to create a refined and inviting setting that combined the racecourse’s historic character with a more contemporary hospitality experience.
