Land Studio was commissioned to develop a courtyard design for Little Paradise in Bristol as part of a SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) and residential complex.
After conducting a solar light analysis, it was noted that the area would receive limited natural light. To enhance wellbeing despite this, strategic design solutions were implemented. An east-facing planting arrangement was introduced to create a harmonious atmosphere through varied textures, sounds, and scents. Another section was dedicated to communal seating, fostering social interaction and community wellbeing. A key design consideration was ensuring accessibility and visibility from the surrounding residential complexes, enhancing the sense of connection and belonging for residents.
The design also emphasized sustainable practices, incorporating SuDS features to manage rainwater effectively. These elements not only addressed environmental concerns but also contributed to the aesthetic and functional value of the courtyard.
