Cold Knap Park, Barry - CMP

Cold Knap Park is a Grade II registered inter-war public park forming a distinctive and much loved part of Barry’s seafront. Its cohesive 1920s–30s design, prominent coastal setting and layered social history give it considerable historic, aesthetic, communal and evidential value. 

The Vale of Glamorgan Council commissioned Land Studio to produce a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) to provide a coordinated and evidence based approach to understanding the park’s historic significance, its contribution to Barry’s seafront character, and the pressures and opportunities that will shape its long-term future. 

The CMP identifies where opportunities exist to guide decisions about how best to manage and maintain the site effectively, ensuring that its significance and historic characteristics are retained while supporting its ongoing public value. The CMP provides management objectives and policies providing clear guidance for day-to-day maintenance, repair and enhancement, ensuring that interventions protect historic character while supporting public enjoyment, biodiversity and climate resilience. A framework translates these policies into practical tasks, outlining responsibilities and priorities for Council teams, contractors and community partners.
