Welcome to our first edition of The Guide.Published monthly, The Guide provides a blend of technical content and advice, regulatory updates, project case studies and the latest Land Studio news. We hope you like it.
In this month's issue, Land Studio Director and Landscape Architect Kate Richards looks at why design that cares for nature and people is the only design that lasts. She says that by translating ecological standards into health metrics and securing the governance to sustain them, architects can deliver places that are not only greener, but healthier and more resilient for the long term. Focus on one of our landscape architectsGraduate Landscape Architect Treicy Isamitt talks about her journey from studying architecture in Chile to working for Land Studio in Chester. How did you start your career? I studied architecture in Chile, my country of origin. There I had a professional base related to landscape and construction, respecting the sense and identity of place. This allowed me to give importance to local communities, rurality, and respect for nature. I then began to focus more and more on the landscape and its relationship in the lives of people. What’s your role at Land Studio? I’m a Graduate Landscape Architect and I support different stages of projects and learn more every day about the processes and what makes a project rich in landscape identity. What attracted you to a career in the UK? I had worked as an architect for over eight years and this helped me understand the shortcomings of architecture in relation to the current environmental situation. With a personal interest in solving problems related to that, I came to the UK to study Landscape Architecture in Manchester. This helped me understand the local problem, the possible solutions and how to address them according to my perspective. These are perspective and interests that I’m developing in my work at Land Studio. What do you like about Land Studio? I like that it is a dynamic and open office with a structure that allows the freedom to understand all the components of a project. It’s great that we have landscape architects, ecologists and civil engineers collaborating under one roof. What drives you? I am motivated to create spaces where architecture and landscape can be together, coherently, and hopefully with as little human intervention as possible. How do you relax outside of work? I usually like to relax by watching a movie, documentary or series that is action, science fiction or comedy. I also find time to catch up with my family and friends from Chile. |
