Land Studio was commissioned by the National Trust to design a new pedestrian path across the main lawn at Bodnant Gardens, one of Wales’ most celebrated historic gardens.
The project addressed an informal desire line that had developed over time, wearing a visible track across the lawn and detracting from the character and visual quality of the surrounding garden setting. Working closely with the National Trust team, we developed a solution that balances the practical need for a defined visitor route with the sensitivity to the setting demands.
The result is a simple, carefully considered gravel path with clean steel edging, providing a durable and accessible route that guides visitors naturally across the lawn. The restrained material palette ensures the path sits quietly within its surroundings, complementing rather than competing with the exceptional planting and landscape character of the gardens.
Completed in spring 2026, the project demonstrates our approach to thoughtful, landscape-led design within heritage settings.
