Parc Calon Lan, Bridgend

Parc Calon Lan is located in a village near the Garw River Valley in Bridgend, Wales. The site is surrounded by historical significance, being part of reclaimed land previously used for coal works.
 

Land Studio was commissioned to develop a feasibility study for space that invites community use while serving as a route to various amenities, including the local school. The design includes educational pods positioned to face the sun, equipped with solar panels to promote sustainability. The surrounding landscape features additional plants to and seating areas encourage picnics and leisure activities.

To respect the local community, residents were consulted to ensure the pods were not directly in the immediate view of a residential walkway but were positioned close enough to maintain visibility and security. Looking east towards the primary school, the layout enhances connectivity while preserving the historical context of the area. The project successfully balances modern educational needs with historical sensitivity, creating a multifunctional space for learning and leisure.
