Lower Wireworks Car Park, Tintern

Located on the banks of the River Wye the Lower Wireworks Car Park provides a gateway to Tintern Abbey. Monmouthshire County Council has been awarded funding under the Welsh Governments Brilliant Basic.

The Tintern Welcome Project aims to improve the sense of arrival and overall experience of visitors to Tintern. The first element of this project addresses insufficient car parking capacity.

Land Studio were commissioned to oversee the landscape design. 

The existing area faced challenges such as parking outside designated bays, undefined spaces, and deteriorating bollards and addressing these issues by considering sustainable and durable solutions such as the integration of permeable and recycled materials as environmentally sensitive options for surfacing. 

These improvements not only enhance the functionality and safety of the parking area but also contribute to the environmental sustainability and historic sensitivity of the site.
