Our work with Cadbury College

We have been commissioned to work with Cadbury College, a Sixth Form College in Birmingham which specialises in the teaching of students aged 16-19.

The College recently gained planning permission for a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) building on its South Birmingham campus.

The building, which was designed by Ellis Williams Architects, will promote state-of-the-art digital technology and learning. It will also provide facilities for the new food hospitality training courses within a restaurant, kitchen and bar.

Our landscape design links to these spaces, with a courtyard planted with fruit trees, raised vegetable beds and herbs to create a kitchen garden. Students will be able to use the produce in their cooking and also enjoy the space during their breaks

We were also asked to design the entrance and approach to the new building, to improve the views into the site. We proposed additional trees, hedges and some ornamental planting to frame a terrace where the training café could spill out onto, along with a retention pond to accommodate rainwater run-off will be planted with native aquatics.

We have also designed mown paths leading from new cycle stores through a wildflower meadow in the more informal, natural area of the site that neighbours an existing allotment. These elements not only provide the students and staff of the college with places to gather or reflect, but they also create several biodiversity enhancements for the environment.
